Learn about the widely known but often forgotten content creation process that we use to create tons of content in a ridiculously short timeframe.

Hey there, fellow marketers and business owners! Let’s discuss something crucial for your business success: creating content for marketing. As someone who’s been in the trenches of digital marketing and sales for years, I can tell you that crafting compelling content for marketing is the key to grabbing your audience’s attention, building trust, and ultimately driving those all-important conversions.

But let’s be real – creating content for marketing can be a tough nut to crack. It’s not just about churning out blog posts or social media updates and calling it a day. No, no, no. To nail your content for marketing, you need to have a solid strategy in place, understand your target audience inside and out, and consistently deliver value that keeps them coming back for more.

So, how do you create content for marketing that hits the mark every time? Well, buckle up, because I’m about to share some of my top tips and tricks for crafting content for marketing that’ll knock your audience’s socks off and send your engagement rates soaring.

The following are the steps and considerations for creating content for marketing. On the last page, I share a widely known but often overlooked content creation process that we use to make tons of content quickly.

1. Know Your Audience Like the Back of Your Hand

First things first, if you want your content for marketing to resonate with your target audience, you need to know them better than you know your own family. I’m talking about really digging deep and understanding their pain points, their goals, their desires, and what makes them tick.

One of the best ways to get to know your audience when creating content for marketing is to create buyer personas. These are fictional representations of your ideal customers based on real data and research. By fleshing out your buyer personas, you can start to picture your audience as real people with real needs and tailor your content for marketing accordingly.

For example, let’s say you’re creating content for marketing aimed at busy, health-conscious millennials. Your buyer persona might be a 28-year-old woman named “Fit Fiona” who works a demanding job, tries to eat clean, and is always on the lookout for quick, healthy meal ideas. With this persona in mind, you can create content for marketing that speaks directly to Fiona’s needs, like a blog post on “10 Healthy Meal Prep Recipes for Busy Professionals” or a social media campaign showcasing your brand’s latest time-saving kitchen gadgets.

2. Focus on Providing Value

Here’s the thing about content for marketing – if it’s not providing real value to your audience, it’s not worth creating. Your content for marketing needs to educate, entertain, inspire, or solve a problem for your readers. If it’s not doing at least one of those things, it’s just taking up space on the internet.

Focus on Providing Value

When you’re brainstorming ideas for your content for marketing, always ask yourself, “What’s in it for my audience?” Will this blog post teach them something new and useful? Will this social media update make them laugh or feel inspired? Will this email newsletter give them exclusive access to valuable resources or insights?

One way to ensure your content for marketing is always providing value is to focus on evergreen topics that will remain relevant and useful to your audience over time. These are the kinds of posts that people will want to bookmark, share, and come back to again and again.

For example, if you’re creating content for marketing in the personal finance niche, an evergreen topic might be “How to Create a Budget You Can Stick To.” This is the kind of post that will be just as useful to your audience three years from now as it is today, making it a valuable addition to your content for your marketing arsenal.

3. Tell a Compelling Story

Humans are hardwired to love a good story, and that’s just as true when it comes to content for marketing. Incorporating storytelling into your content for marketing can help you create an emotional connection with your audience, make your brand more relatable, and make your message more memorable.

Tell a Compelling Story

When crafting your content for marketing, look for opportunities to weave in stories that illustrate your points or showcase your brand’s values. These could be personal anecdotes, customer success stories, or even fictional narratives that drive home a key message.

For example, let’s say you’re creating content for marketing for a sustainable fashion brand. You could tell the story of how your brand got started, highlighting your founder’s passion for environmentalism and the challenges they faced in building an ethical supply chain. Or you could share a customer success story about how your clothing made them feel confident and stylish while also aligning with their values.

The key to using storytelling effectively in your content for marketing is to keep it authentic, relatable, and tied to your overall brand messaging. Don’t just tell a story for the sake of telling a story – make sure it serves a purpose and reinforces the key takeaways you want your audience to remember.

4. Optimize for Search Engines

Here’s a hard truth about content for marketing – if your target audience can’t find it, it might as well not exist. That’s why optimizing your content for marketing for search engines is so crucial. By making sure your content for marketing is search engine-friendly, you can increase your chances of ranking high in search results and getting in front of the people who are actively seeking out the information you’re providing.

Optimize for Search Engines

To optimize your content for marketing for search engines, start by conducting keyword research to identify the terms and phrases your target audience is using to search for topics related to your business. Then, incorporate those keywords naturally throughout your content for marketing, including in your headlines, subheadings, and body text.

But don’t stop there – optimizing your content for marketing for search engines also involves making sure your posts are easy to read and navigate. Use short paragraphs, bullet points, and plenty of white space to break up your text and make it scannable. And don’t forget to include internal links to other relevant posts on your site, as well as external links to high-quality sources that support your points.

Finally, make sure your content for marketing is mobile-friendly and loads quickly. With more and more people accessing the internet on their smartphones, having a mobile-optimized site is non-negotiable for effective content for marketing.

5. Promote, Promote, Promote

Creating amazing content for marketing is only half the battle – if you want it to reach your target audience, you need to promote the heck out of it. And I don’t just mean sharing it on your social media channels once and calling it a day.

Promote, Promote, Promote

To get the most mileage out of your content for marketing, you need to have a solid promotion plan in place. This might include:

– Sharing your content for marketing on your social media channels multiple times over several weeks or even months

– Reaching out to influencers or other websites in your niche and asking them to share your content for marketing with their followers

– Repurposing your content for marketing into different formats, like turning a blog post into a video or a podcast episode

– Using paid advertising to get your content for marketing in front of a wider audience

– Leveraging email marketing to promote your content for marketing to your subscribers

The key is to keep your content for marketing working for you long after you’ve hit “publish.” By continually promoting your content for marketing and finding new ways to get it in front of your target audience, you can maximize its impact and drive more traffic, engagement, and conversions for your business.

6. Collaborate with Others

Creating content for marketing doesn’t have to be a solo endeavor – in fact, collaborating with others can be a fantastic way to expand your reach, build relationships, and create even better content for marketing than you could on your own.

Collaborate with Others

One way to collaborate on content for marketing is to partner with other businesses or influencers in your niche to create joint content, like a webinar, an e-book, or a social media campaign. By pooling your resources and audiences, you can create content for marketing that’s even more valuable and impactful than what you could create alone.

Another way to collaborate on content for marketing is to invite guest contributors to create content for your website or social media channels. This could be in the form of a guest blog post, a social media takeover, or even a video interview. By featuring other voices and perspectives in your content for marketing, you can add depth and variety to your messaging while also tapping into your contributors’ audiences.

When collaborating on content for marketing, it’s important to choose partners that align with your brand values and target audience. Look for collaborators who have a complementary skill set or audience to yours, and who are genuinely excited about working together to create great content for marketing.

7. Measure and Adjust

Finally, creating effective content for marketing is an ongoing process – it’s not something you can set and forget. To make your content for marketing work for your business, you need to continuously measure your results and adjust your strategy based on what you learn.

Measure and Adjust

Some key metrics to track when measuring the success of your content for marketing include:

– Traffic: How many people are visiting your website or social media channels as a result of your content for marketing?

– Engagement: How many people are interacting with your content for marketing by liking, commenting, sharing, or clicking through to your website?

– Conversions: How many people are taking a desired action, like making a purchase or filling out a lead form, as a result of your content for marketing?

– Bounce rate: How many people are leaving your website after only viewing one page, indicating that your content for marketing may not be meeting their needs or expectations?

By regularly tracking these metrics and analyzing your results, you can start to identify patterns and trends in your content for marketing performance. Maybe you notice that your audience tends to engage more with video content than with written blog posts, or that certain topics consistently drive more conversions than others.

Armed with this data, you can start to make informed decisions about how to optimize your content for marketing going forward. Maybe you decide to create more video content or focus on the topics that are driving the most conversions. Or maybe you realize that you need to adjust your targeting or promotion strategies to get your content for marketing in front of the right people.

The beauty of content for marketing is that it’s never a one-and-done deal – there’s always room for improvement and optimization based on your results and your audience’s needs and preferences. By staying nimble and continually refining your approach, you can create content for marketing that truly resonates with your target audience and drives real results for your business.

So there you have it – my top tips and tricks for creating content for marketing that engages, educates, and converts. As you can see, content for marketing is both an art and a science, requiring equal parts creativity and strategic thinking. But when you get it right, the payoff can be huge – more traffic, more engagement, more leads, and ultimately, more revenue for your business.

Of course, creating content for marketing is just one piece of the digital marketing puzzle – there’s also SEO, social media, email marketing, and a whole host of other strategies to consider. But by nailing your content for marketing, you’re laying the foundation for success across all your digital channels.

Oh, and I nearly forgot – here’s the widely known but often forgotten content creation process that we use ourselves to create tons of content in a ridiculously short amount of time:

  1. Research your audience: You should be able to do deep research, and only then keep listening for any possible changes or additional insights – the best way to do this is by talking to your clients – the decision makers, and the users. Make sure you are always listening to your clients and prospects.
  2. Research your keywords: This should be done quarterly and aligned with your “client listening”. Build out your keyword lists so you know what you are focusing on. This will ultimately drive your content topics.
  3. Build your content subject lines: Derived from and or including your keywords, as you want to keep them SEO relevant. Decide how many main articles you want, how long they should be – and the preferred keyword density.
  4. Have two or more subject matter experts chew the fat about the subject and record it like a podcast: They may both be employees, clients, prospects, or other specialists from the industry (agencies, other providers).
  5. Once you have this first video, get it transcribed, and voila! You have the basis of all your content. This can be broken down as follows:
    1. Firstly, the main video can be edited, top and tailed with your B-roll, and posted to YouTube.
    2. Break that down into snippet videos to use as shorts, TikToks, and stories.
    3. Take the full Video transcript and turn that into a blog post.
    4. Break the blog post up into insightful social posts across your chosen platforms.

Rinse and repeat for each subject line. Once we started doing this, our content creation increased materially! And with a lot less effort than we had been putting in. Of course, you can lean on AI for some suggestions and frameworks, but do be careful not to lean on it too much – it can cause a backlash in your SEO.

Happy creating!
